Our Program
Fostering the Future
Our family is made of all shapes and sizes and changes with every year. We are a foster family. We desire to give each and every child who come to our home a sense of security. This means safety, healthy relationships, and showing a genuine care for the child.
These children participate in the routines of running a small farm. This lifestyle creates a sense of acceptance, comfort, and they feel needed. They form a therapeutic bond with the animals as they quickly learn that each one depends on them to meet their needs. Each child has the opportunity to participate in raising their very own animal through 4-H. They begin to build a savings account and learn to manage and budget their money. Iron Wheel Farm supports these at risk youth through these hard confusing times and works to give them a sense of self worth, confidence and to provide them with an opportunity in their future. It's our goal to help them see a bright future and that know one can choose who they become or who they are except themselves.
Ag Ed School
Iron Wheel Farm works alongside Selle Valley Carden School to bring a hands on agriculture program to the children. Sustainability in agriculture depends on the next generations to understand where our food comes from, how it is raised, and to protect it and carry on the American Farmer legacy rather than change what we do.
Our ag program focuses on a well rounded child. Understanding that there is more to agriculture than being the one working with the animals, students are challenged to be entrepreneurs, inventors, scientists and mechanics. They put their mathematics to work in real life scenarios and also learn record keeping, budgeting, and design the advertisements.
Our program is educating for the future. Preparing these children for what jobs may not even be created yet. Creating a passion for learning and an understanding of the need for agriculture.
